Mathematics Olympiad: Circle

This problem is a mathematics olympiad problem  for elementary school. The radius of each circle in the picture below is one unit.

Determine the area of L! (Phi = 3

Answer:
0.86 unit area

The area of L

= (square area ABCD) – 4(1/4 x circle area)

= square area ABCD – circle area

= (2×2) – (phi x 1^2)

= 4- phi

= 4 – 3, 14

= 0,86
